Davidson Street home invasion story falls apart

Valley News Dispatch
| Monday, July 7, 2008 4:00 a.m.
A Davidson Street home invasion on Thursday didn't happen, police said. Instead, the story was fabricated by a man who now admits to police he didn't want to tell his mother a female acquaintance took her car, police said. John Etzrodt Jr.'s home invasion story started to unravel when the car was found on Friday by Carnegie police. Tarentum police Sgt. Ryan Hanford said, Etzrodt, 25, admitted to bringing Kristy Walsh, 22, of Dormont, to the basement of his family house at Davidson Street. Once there, the pair started to drink alcohol. After about 20 minutes, Etzrodt went upstairs. Walsh allegedly took the keys to a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt that Etzrodt had borrowed from his mother and drove off. The silver Chevy was listed as stolen in a police bulletin sent to departments in the region by Tarentum police Thursday morning. Carnegie police stopped the car Friday night. Walsh was charged with drunken driving, theft of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property, Hanford said. Etzrodt was charged with giving false statements to police. "I reinterviewed him. He said he picked her up and they partied," Hanford said. "He lied about the car because he was afraid to tell his mother."
