The Greater Tri-Town Area Historical Society will be holding an auction at 6:30 p.m. May 30. This event, usually held during homecoming week is being held early this year to help fund this year's event and to better able the public to enjoy the annual festivities. On May 31, the Tri-Town area will be hosting a cleanup contest throughout the area from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A cash prize will be awarded to the person or persons collecting the most trash. This is also in preparation for Homecoming 2008. As a reminder, please plan to display your American flags and buntings during this annual event which is taking place June 6 to 8. Vendors are still needed for this year's festivities, as well as donations for the chinese auction and parade participants.

The historical society is also looking for area residents age 90 and older to honor during this year's festivities. Ultimately, the society would like to have these seniors participate in the annual parade, scheduled for 1 p.m. June 7. If you know of someone who fits the bill, please let the committee know. Call Patty Lint at 724-529-2368 or Lori Lamanna at 724-529-7157 or Mary Jane Winterhalter at 724-529-2724. Contact person for the parade is John Pyda at 724-529-2427. This year's event features live entertainment, fun and games for all ages, the walk/race, the duck race, and as always delicious food, a chance to get together with family and friends, and fabulous fireworks.

Keep in mind that the schedule for this month's food distribution through area churches is slightly different. Just a reminder, the Brownfield Community Center no longer holds bingo games, nor are there plans to restart them in the foreseeable future.

Deepest sympathies go to the family of Theodore "Ted" Davis, who passed April 25. He was a dedicated church and community member and a loving and devoted father, grandfather and husband. He and his outgoing personality will be missed by all.

Sympathy goes to the family of former Hulltown resident, Dennis Rimel, who passed away April 28. Every one who knew him knows he was a unique, fun-loving individual, who was full of life. May you find strength and comfort in the Lord during your time of grief.

Thanks to all who supported the spaghetti dinner recently held at the Brownfield Community Center to benefit Cody Fend and his upcoming eye surgery. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Josh Dewing, who turns 18 Tuesday; to my son, Jesse Lynn who turns 23 on Friday and his son, Colby, who turns 5 on Saturday.

Don't forget, folks, Sunday is Mother's Day. Please take the time to let your mom know how much you care.

This week is National Teacher's Appreciation Week. Let you children's teachers know that you appreciate the hard work and dedication, not to mention the love that they show your children each and every school day.

This week's volunteers to be honored include Duane King, for his dedication to the East Liberty United Presbyterian Church's monthly food pantry, and his community in general. Often, you will see him out and about doing something to spruce up his hometown of Vanderbilt, just because he wants to. He's a dedicated citizen who loves his hometown. When you see him, give him a heartfelt "thank you" and a handshake, he's earned it. Also being honored this week are Bob Luktisch, "Little Joe" Trapasso, Steve White, Wendel Hayes, Chris Hayes and all who help to make and keep our community the pleasant place to live that it is.

If you have something that you would like to see here, give me a call at 724-398-3050, e-mail me at bethannlynn@hotmail.com or drop me a line at 276 Banning Road, Dawson, PA 15428-1175. Please do so by 6 p.m. Tuesday each week so that I am better able to prepare my weekly column. Until next time folks, keep smiling and have a great week.
