Dayton keeps Duquesne off glass in Atlantic 10 win
Duquesne was outrebounded, 41-24, and shot just 4 of 21 from 3-point range, a bad combination in tonight’s 74-62 Atlantic 10 loss to Dayton at A.J. Palumbo Center.
Dayton’s Paul Williams scored 18 points and was joined by four teammates in double figures. Matt Kavanaugh, a 6-foot-9 forward, topped his season average for points (9.3) and rebounds (6.0). The junior had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The loss hurts the Dukes’ hopes of hosting a first-round game in the conference tournament — a perk for finishing fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth in the A-10. Duquesne (15-12, 6-7) and Dayton (17-10, 7-6) were tied for eighth before yesterday, and both have three games left.
The first four teams receive byes into the A-10 quarterfinals in Atlantic City.
Mike Talley led the Dukes with 13 points, and B.J. Monteiro added 10.
Duquesne won 83-73 when these teams played Feb. 1 in Dayton, led by Monteiro’s 20 points.
