Last week: 6-1 (.857)

Season: 40-6 (.870)

D.C. Picks is starting to get excited. He knows that so many games have so much meaning in terms of who does and doesn't make the playoffs. Here are the picks for Week 8:

Gateway (4-3, 4-0) at Connellsville (0-7, 0-5)

It's been another long season for the Connellsville football team, and things aren't getting any easier. D.C. Picks has his sights set on a possible win for the Falcons next week against Valley, but that's not the game on the immediate horizon. This week, Connellsville gets the task of trying to slow down Gateway, a team that beat the Falcons by 76 points last season. Gateway, 56-7.

California (4-3, 4-2) at Frazier (4-3, 4-2)

The Commodores missed a golden opportunity to clinch a playoff spot last week thanks to a loss to Carmichaels, but Frazier has another chance this week. D.C. Picks thinks that California is a slightly better team than Carmichaels and Frazier, so with that logic, he's going to go with the visitors. California, 24-14.

Carmichaels (4-3, 3-3) at Geibel (3-4, 3-3)

The Mikes kept their playoff hopes alive with a thrilling overtime win over Frazier, but Carmichaels better not look past Geibel this week. The Gators are also in the playoff hunt, but do they have enough to overcome a Carmichaels team that seems to be putting things together at the right time of year• D.C. Picks isn't so sure. Carmichaels, 21-17.

Mt. Pleasant (4-3, 4-2) at Waynesburg (1-6, 1-5)

It's difficult to imagine the Vikings heading to Greene County and playing poorly against Waynesburg. D.C. Picks believes that if the Vikings can contain Waynesburg's ground attack, this will be a relatively easy victory for the visitors. Mt. Pleasant, 35-7.

Yough (0-7, 0-6) at Southmoreland (3-4, 3-3)

The Scotties are still alive in the playoff hunt and have a big game against Mt. Pleasant next week. It might be easy for the Scotties to look past winless Yough, but don't bet on it happening. Southmoreland, 26-6.

Uniontown (3-4, 2-3) at Derry (1-6, 1-4)

D.C. Picks realizes that the Red Raiders are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff race in the Keystone Conference. However, D.C. Picks is expecting Uniontown to keep its slim playoff hopes alive with a win this week. Uniontown, 24-13.

Hollidaysburg (4-3, 2-3) at Laurel Highlands (1-6, 1-4)

The likelihood that the Mustangs make the playoffs this year is not good at all. However, the only thing Laurel Highlands can do is win the rest of its games and hope for the best. A win over Hollidaysburg could be big for keeping hope alive, but D.C. Picks doesn't see that happening. Hollidaysburg, 29-14.
