A man's badly decomposed body was discovered about 5 p.m. Sunday inside 506 Lincoln Ave., Charleroi.

An unidentified man told Charleroi police he read a sign on the side of the house, felt it might be for sale and knocked on the door to inquire about the property.

When no one answered, he yelled, "Hello" and then entered the abandoned structure.

He discovered the body in an upstairs bedroom, lying on the floor.

Authorities hope to identify the body by using dental and possibly fingerprint records.

Charleroi police Superintendent Mike Matyas said the home had been vacant for nearly three months.

Matyas said authorities do not suspect foul play but are "covering all our bases" in their investigation of the death.

Police do not yet know how the body got into the house, Matyas said.

An autopsy will be conducted.

State police records and identification personnel were called in to assist in the investigation.
