A North Amityville, N.Y., man faces up to 15 years in prison on new charges in a shooting in which the victim died after the man had served his sentence.

Police arrested Thomas Thompson Sunday on a charge of second-degree manslaughter in the October 2002 shooting of 13-year-old Vincent Alves.

Thompson was accused of paralyzing the teen when he fired four shots into a neighbor's house, with whom Thompson had been feuding, Newsday reported.

Thompson pleaded guilty to assault and reckless endangerment in June 2003 and served one year in prison.

However, Alves died in January 2004 and the Suffolk County, N.Y., coroner ruled the death was a homicide.

The ruling sparked a new grand jury investigation and the fresh charge, on which Thompson faced arraignment Thursday, the newspaper reported.
