In her letter “Common goals” (July 5 and TribLIVE.com), Kathryn Klaber suggests that President Obama and the Marcellus Shale Coalition share the objective of developing the natural gas industry as a major contributor to the U.S. energy supply.
This is inconsistent with the president's policies and she knows it.
The president speaks a good game. However, his administration's actions prove beyond any doubt that the federal government's intention is to promote solar and wind power by making fossil fuels far more expensive than they need to be.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is well along in forcing the closure of numerous coal-fired power plants. And the agency misses few opportunities to meddle in the state regulation of natural gas to impede its production. As for the oil industry, the administration stops efforts to drill offshore and on federal lands and to construct pipelines.
In this election year, we need organizations like the Marcellus Shale Coalition to speak the truth: President Obama promotes a destructive energy policy and the path to a Third-World economy.
