Rescue workers have found 120 bodies inside a ferry that capsized Saturday in a river near Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Around 200 people were on board when the MV Maharaj sank in the Buriganga River; some 50 were rescued or managed to swim to safety.

Rescue operations are complete, but the relatives of some of the victims continue to search the river in private boats.

There is no official number of passengers as ferry operators do not keep passenger lists. Some of the bodies may have floated downstream, rescue workers said.

Government officials have promised to make improvements in ferry safety conditions, which are long overdue. Ferry accidents are common in Bangladesh through a combination of bad weather, faulty design and overcrowding.
