Dining news: Bistro 9101 opens up in McCandless

Bistro 9101 is now open at 9101 Perry Highway in McCandless.

Guests of the bistro are welcomed with a freshly roasted bulb of garlic and a toasted baguette.

The menu features appetizers, salads, sandwiches and pastas, entrees and hand-picked wine selections for pairing. The bar features an extensive variety of lagers, ales and craft beers on tap.

Chef Sean Minahan began his cooking career at the Carlton Restaurant in Downtown, Pittsburgh.

He then went on to open two restaurants in Walt Disney World.

He worked in restaurants in Charlotte, N.C., and Atlanta. He returned to Pittsburgh, where he worked providing world-class food at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Kavsar

Kavsar Uzbek Halal Restaurant is open at 16 Southern Ave. on Mt. Washington.

The restaurant features cold and hot appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and kebabs, vegetarian dishes and homemade desserts.

Osteria 2350

Osteria 2350, at 2350 Railroad St. in the Strip District, will host a beer-tasting dinner at 6 p.m. March 13, in partnership with Yards Brewing Co.

The five-course meal will include prime beef carpaccio with beer-mustard vinaigrette, aged cheddar and pickled peppers paired with Yards IPA; dandelion greens with duck confit, roasted mushrooms and tomato vinaigrette, paired with Thomas Jefferson's Tavern Ale; pan-seared skate wing with shaved rapini and bagna cauda paired with Yards Brawler; confit pork belly with gruyere bread pudding and mushroom porter reduction, paired with Gen. Washington's Tavern Porter; and citrus panna cotta with spiced crisp cookie, paired with Philadelphia Pale Ale.

Cost per person is $55, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Pittsburgh Neighborhood Series

Every third Friday of the month, the local food community will come together to celebrate one of the neighborhoods that brings character and charm to Pittsburgh. Guests will enjoy food, cocktails, goods and a speaker from each unique part of town.

The first of the 92 featured neighborhoods is East Liberty from 7 to 9 p.m. March 21 at Wigle Whiskey, 2401 Smallman St. in the Strip District.

Chef Kevin Sousa will present the area's history as mirrored through his Station Street Hot Dog Shop. East Liberty Development representatives will discuss upcoming changes, and Sean Enright of Livermore will serve cocktails.

Station Street Hot Dogs and Union Pig and Chicken will serve food. Guests also can meet the owners and shop goods from The Shop in East Liberty and Olive & Marlowe.

Admission is $20.
