La Gourmandine

French bakery La Gourmandine, with locations in Lawrenceville and Mt. Lebanon, has plans for a new location in Hazelwood, says owner Fabien Moreau.

The shop, planned for 5011 and 5013 Second Ave., is expected to open in the fall.

Moreau says the idea for the new location came when he was approached by Action-Housing, a Pittsburgh nonprofit working to revitalize the Hazelwood community. He believes the neighborhood is an ideal spot for his business.

“When I opened in Lawrenceville, no one understood why I was opening my first shop there, and, within a couple years, there was a lot more activity,” he says. “(Hazelwood) is an up-and-coming area, and people are looking for new stuff.”

La Gourmandine specializes in authentic French pastries, croissants, sandwiches and more. Details: lagourmandinebakery.com
