Dining news: Lidia’s, Meat & Potatoes and an endless summer luau
Guests are invited to join Lidia’s Pittsburgh, 1400 Smallman St., in the Strip District, for a celebration of all things tomato at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24.
Menu features Tomato Elixir, rice- and montasio-filled tomato crostini with crab, tomato and horseradish and tomato and fresh oregano fritters paired with Flor Rose Prosecco; Heirloom Tomato Mosaic with burrata and basil with Rosato, Bastianich; ricotta gnocchi with sausage, San Marzano tomato and wild fennel with Sangiovese, La Mozza; battutina of beef tenderloin with heirloom tomato, mozzarella and garlic fonduta with Aragone, 2010 La Mozza; and basil and sweet corn ice creams with candied green tomatoes and corn meal crunch with coffee and grappa service.
Cost is $55 per person, $30 additional for wine pairing.

Meat & Potatoes
Meat & Potatoes, 649 Penn Ave., Downtown, has revamped its namesake meal, the Build Your Own Meat & Potatoes for Two.
Guests now can build their own boards by choosing what kind of sauces, sides and potatoes they would like to accompany the 45-ounce, bone-in ribeye and bone marrow gratin.
In addition, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Mondays, Meat & Potatoes offers a late-night menu of $5 burgers, $3 to $5 snacks and drink specials.

Endless Summer Luau
An Endless Summer Luau will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Biergarten at Hotel Monaco, 620 William Penn Place, Downtown, to benefit the Colon Cancer Alliance.
Festivities include traditional luau food from executive chef Wyatt Lash of sibling restaurant The Commoner, tiki cocktails, Polynesian dancers, fire throwers, coconut husking, hula dancing and more.
Tickets are $50 for the all-inclusive experience and $35 for age 12 and younger.

Lola wine dinner
Lola Bistro, 1100 Galveston Ave., on the North Side, will host an old grapes wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25.
The menu includes cantaloupe gazpacho; cappelletti, ramp-infused pasta filled with housemade goat ricotta and served with a fresh pomodoro; panzanella, with Lola’s garden summer vegetables, pickled ramps, house focaccia crouton and fennel flower aioli; kebab of house whey-brined pork, caponata and pearl potato salad with dill flower vinaigrette; lavender-lemon panna cotta and summer berries compote.
Cost is $70 per person with wine pairings. Reservations are required.

Mad Mex Lakeside
The newest Mad Mex location is open at 200 N. Lakeside Drive, North Strabane.
The restaurant features a large lakeside patio offering views of Canonsburg Lake. Mad Mex, a property of the Big Burrito Restaurant Group, features an array of Mexican- and Spanish-inspired dishes, margaritas, salsas, guacamole and more.

The third iteration of seasonal hopped whiskey debuts Aug. 19 at the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse, 1055 Spring Garden Ave., on the North Side.
In celebration, “Hop Fest + Beer De-Brew” will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and feature hopped whiskey cocktail and paired beer-spirit sampling from Helltown Brewing, Grist House Craft Brewery and Spoonwood Brewery. Each beer will be paired with a Wigle spirit sample. Tickets are $15.
Also, now that new legislation in Pennsylvania allows limited distilleries to sell beer onsite, both the barrelhouse and Strip District distillery serve local beer.
