Dining news: Rivers Club’s new dining rooms; Pork & Beans; Senti
The Rivers Club
The Rivers Club in One Oxford Centre, Downtown, now features the updated Hearth Lounge and Foundry dining rooms as part of an ongoing, multimillion-dollar reinvention project that began in early January.
The goal of the project is to transform the club’s dining and social experience into a more personalized, vibrant atmosphere showcasing the city’s rich heritage. The Hearth Lounge features a communal table for 10 with plug-ins and iPads, a media wall with several flat-screen TVs and a centrally located bar with panoramic views of Mt. Washington and the Monongahela River. The renovations include new furniture, carpet and lighting. The lounge serves breakfast, lunch and casual dinners.
The new Foundry Dining Room serves lunch and dinner. Formerly part of the main dining room, the Foundry features an a la carte lunch menu featuring fresh, local ingredients. New upscale dinner items will debut soon.
The private dining rooms, which also are complete, rounded out phase one of the renovation. The smaller rooms feature built-in technology, and the board room includes a new table and comfortable chairs for 14. Phase two began April 1 with the installation of a new ceiling, carpet, walls and chairs for the ballroom, which can be used for private dining and business meetings.
Work is slated to be completed by mid-June.

Pork & Beans
Richard DeShantz of Meat and Potatoes, Tako and Butcher and the Rye is joining forces with Keith Fuller of Root 174 to bring Pork & Beans to 136 Sixth St., Downtown.
The pork-centric smokehouse and beer garden is expected to open this spring. The menu will feature house-smoked and house-cured meats, plus a variety of salads, sandwiches, entrees and schnitzels. The bar program will offer a selection of local beers and hard-to-find brews, as well as a selection of hand-crafted cocktails.
The restaurant will have a relaxed atmosphere with communal seating and a wide range of price points on the menu.
On May 7, the restaurant is offering a sold-out five-course preview dinner in collaboration with Full Pint Brewery.
Senti Restaurant and Wine Bar, 3473 Butler St., Lawrenceville, has several events slated for the coming weeks.
Cinco de Mayo happy hour begins at 4:30 p.m. May 5 and will feature wine selections by Fred Magnotta, owner of F. Magnotta Imports, and specialty cocktails Tequila Manhattan and Contratto-Rita.
Mother’s Day weekend, May 7 and 8, will feature a prix fixe brunch and dinner menu. Guests can enjoy brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be extended hours from noon to 8 p.m. May 8.
The restaurant continues its wine and pasta classes at 6 p.m. May 12 with a focus on tortelloni. Chef Shawn Carlson will create hazelnut ricotta-filled tortelloni with an orange-scented basil pesto. A three-course meal and a glass of wine will be served.
At 6 p.m. May 26, Senti will host Wine 101, with sommelier Luis Rios reviewing the history, production methods and styles of wine.

Lidia’s, at 1400 Smallman St. in the Strip District, will host Mother’s Day brunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 8.
Seasonal favorites will include chicken scallopine, braised lamb shoulder and grilled chops and grilled salmon, as well as Lidia’s trio of pasta specials.
Cost per person is $39.50. Children’s brunch selections will be available for $16.

Cinco de Mayo
Mad Mex, with several Pittsburgh region locations, will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with all-day drink specials, entertainment and a special new menu item.
Breakfast at Mex begins at 9 a.m. Guests can enter a contest to win a year of free food.
The Cranberry, Monroeville and Robinson locations will debut a burger for Cinco de Mayo featuring jack cheese, bacon guacamole and jalapenos.
The Cranberry restaurant will feature music by The Skipper Johnson Band. The Lava Game and Byron Nash & Plan B will play at the Robinson location.
