Savory Hill, a restaurant specializing in new American casual cuisine, is open at 988 Broadhead Road, Moon.

Popular menu items are the braised short ribs and the Southern fried chicken, chef Tom Langan says.

Langan was born and raised in Moon. He studied at the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts and completed his externship at the Ritz Carlton Naples.

He's worked in country clubs and restaurants in Florida and Meadville, Pa. In 2004, he returned to the Pittsburgh area as the executive chef at Sunnyledge Boutique Hotel in Shadyside. In 2005, he took on the role of executive sous chef at Heinz Field. After one season, he accepted the role of executive chef.

Root 174

Root 174, a contemporary bistro at 1113 South Braddock Ave. in Regent Square, will start serving lunch May 1.

Lunch service will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The limited menu will include appetizers and main dishes as well as cocktails, wine and beer and will change frequently to match the dinner menu changes.

Dinner hours are 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, and 5 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The Rice Inn is open at 5041 Library Road, Bethel Park, specializing in Chinese, Japanese and Thai fare.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; noon to 9 p.m. Sundays.

Azure Café and Grill

Azure Café and Grill is open at 565 Lincoln Ave., Bellevue. The restaurant offers Greek, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and vegan options.

Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Popular items are the hummus, made from organic garbanzo beans; the fava bean puree; and the black-eyed peas salad.
