The Walt Disney Co. plans to relocate its employees from the Graphic Arts Technical Building in Oakland into the space Google is vacating in Carnegie Mellon University's Collaborative Innovation Center.

"We expect to move about 20 full-time employees into about 17,000 square feet on the bottom floor before the end of the year," said John Breckow, a Disney spokesman. He said Disney currently occupies about 10,000 square feet in the Graphic Arts building.

Disney set up its research lab in Pittsburgh, teaming with Pixar Animation Studios and a Swiss Institute, to create research labs that would design entertainment technology. CMU's robotics program was one reason for selecting Pittsburgh.

Google will move this fall into about 40,000 square feet at the Bakery Square complex in East Liberty.
