In divorce, British women want to keep the house, pets and house plants, while men want the house, computer, digital camera, CD and DVD collections.
More women wanted to keep the family home than men, but they were more likely to want the dog or cat, according to a survey of 3,515 people by YouGov for the Yorkshire Building Society.
Men wanted their former spouses to keep the bed, television, wedding album, lawn mower and garden accessories, house plants, coffee machine and the family pet, reported the Daily Telegraph Saturday.
In reality, 46 percent of women keep the house, compared with 29 percent of men, while other couples sell the home. But 56 percent of the women keep the television.
"These findings reflect the hugely different emotional attachment that divorcing men and women feel towards their shared possessions," said Denise Knowles, a counselor at Relate, a relationship and counseling organization.
"Men are far keener than women to put their past behind them and want to move on, which is why they are happy to let their ex keep almost all of their shared possessions."
