DJ 'Porky' Chedwick, 90, to attend Irwin car cruise

Legendary Pittsburgh disc jockey Craig "Porky" Chedwick will make a guest appearance at the 17th annual Irwin Car Cruise scheduled on April 26.

Chedwick, who turned 90 in February, made music history 60 years ago when he became the first Caucasian disc jockey to spin records by black artists in a major American city.

Generations dubbed Chedwick with many nicknames over the years, including "The Daddio of the Raddio," "The Platter Pushin' Papa," "The Bossman" and "Pork the Tork."

The event will be held rain or shine from noon to 5 p.m. along Main Street in downtown Irwin. The street will be closed to outside traffic during the cruise.

The car cruise is sponsored by the Irwin Business and Professional Association in cooperation with the borough of Irwin. Registration is $8.
