Remember the P.J. O'Rourke quip about government health care?

"If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free."

Well, the poor Brits already know exactly what P.J. was talking about.

They've been suffering the painful consequences of "free publicly funded health care" since 1948, when Britain created its monstrous, notoriously tatty and irrationally beloved National Health Service bureaucracy.

The latest horror stories of government health care involve Brits having to pull their own teeth and re-glue their own crowns because they can't find "free" dental care from NHS dentists. One U.K. citizen extracted 14 of his own teeth with pliers.

Why can't an estimated 2 million Brits find the dental care they so infamously need• Because many dentists -- half by some accounts -- no longer accept NHS patients. Why?

Because NHS payments are so low dentists can't make a decent income. And because of crippling government paperwork.

Brits must therefore do without dental care -- or practice do-it-yourself dentistry like it's 1750.

Reports like this from the real world of socialized health care ought to make Hillary Clinton and her fellow dreamers think twice about Hillarycare. But they are obviously too high on left-wing laughing gas to learn any lessons from Britain's disintegrating experiment in "free" universal health care.
