A cartoon poking fun at mail carriers' worries about dogs has stopped a mailman from delivering to a Connecticut home, the New York Post reported Sunday.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Carl Walton said two signs and a cartoon at the Enfield, Conn. home of Rottweiler owners Robert and Gail O'Connor are "causing the carrier to think twice about his own safety."

The O'Connors, who have had to drive to the post office to pick up their mail for the past two weeks, says they are defending free speech.

The cartoon the couple taped above the front-door mailbox shows a postman facing two rows of Rottweilers. Two signs are on the door, one showing a Rottweiler saying, "I can make the gate in 4 seconds, can you?" and the second reading "Never mind the dog, beware of owner."

The postal service says deliveries will not resume until the signs are gone. Ironically, Robert O'Connor is a 30-year veteran post office worker and currently is a supervisor at the mail facility at Bradley International Airport near Hartford, Conn.
