Why is it important to have a collar and tags on your pet?

Recently my husband, our two sons and I were traveling westbound on Route 30 near Mountain View when we spotted a little dog headed toward us in the middle of the highway. As we were pulling to the side of the road, my husband repeated, "We are not keeping it." (I have a tendency to adopt all stray animals I find.)

I jumped out and called the dog off the highway while two lanes of traffic was coming toward us. She was friendly and came right to me. I carried her back to our vehicle, and luckily "Daisy" had a collar with a dog license, rabies tag and ID attached.

From these tags we learned her name and her owner's name, address and phone number. Within five minutes she was safely returned to her owners.

Daisy was a very lucky dog. Unfortunately many are not. Please keep your pets contained on your own property, and check them for proper ID. Maybe it will save their lives
