Canine officers from area law enforcement agencies and their dogs will participate in Canine Week at Westmoreland County Community College.
The public is invited to attend the free presentations to be held Monday through Friday in Founders Hall on the Youngwood campus in Hempfield.
Sponsored by the WCCC Criminal Justice Fraternity, the presentations will address topics such as terrorism and homeland security, crime scene investigation, search and rescue, drug investigations, sexual predators and Megan's Law.
The schedule:
• MONDAY — 1 p.m., Eric Eslary of Ligonier Police Department with Blek and Bob Derk of Latrobe Police Department with Rocky.
• TUESDAY — 11 .a.m., John Ackerman from the county coroner's office with Kai, a cadaver dog.
• WEDNESDAY — 8 a.m., Sgt. Kari Bauer of North Huntingdon Police Search and Rescue with Vegas.
• THURSDAY— 12:30 p.m., Westmoreland County Sheriff's Department and the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department's Bloodhound Team, along with Lucy, Fancy, Sophy and Delphi.
• FRIDAY — 8 a.m., Dr. Lynn Springer with pet therapy dog, Jackson; 9 a.m., Matt Painter of Uniontown Police Department with bomb K-9 Xavier, and noon, Held with canine officer Santo.
