There are two open seats on Donegal Borough Council with no candidates on the ballot.

But borough officials say these seats may be filled with write-in campaigns.

Donegal Council has five seats.

One has been vacant since the last municipal election. The second became vacant when Councilman Kevin Mowery moved from the borough and resigned the seat.

At the time of the May primary election, no names appeared on the ballot to fill the vacant seats.

"Originally we couldn't find anyone," said Donegal Mayor Robert Kerr. "Since then we did get a couple people who are interested, but I don't think we will have time to get them on the ballot."

Kerr said those interested may conduct write-in campaigns.

If the seats are filled in the election, the council will have a full membership, Kerr said.

The borough had seven council representatives for many years but lowered the number to five because of the population.

"We're small here," Kerr said, adding that there are about 150 residents that live in the borough. "A lot of people just don't have the time, and it does take some time. People are just busy."

Kerr said in the past, he has been approached by interested parties, but they either did not live in the borough or they did not live there long enough.

"You have to be a resident of the borough for one year to be eligible," Kerr said.

Donegal council meets once every month on the first Tuesday.

"We're going to be fine," Kerr said. "Everything is going to work out. I'm just really glad that we aren't in any type of financial crisis right now. We should have a full council, and it will be business as usual."

Names of interested candidates were not available.
