Donegal Township to make repairs to Skyview Road
Donegal Township Supervisors approved a dirt and gravel maintenance project with the Westmoreland Conservation District for areas of Skyview Road.
Work on the road, located off Route 381 and through Forbes State Forest, will help to control run-off problems.
“We’re going to install some pipes for erosion control,” said Supervisor Tom Stull Jr. “We’ll dig under the ditch and put some pipes in.”
Supervisors also authorized the township solicitor to prepare a resolution to change the hospitalization insurance for township employees.
“We’re looking at going into a health savings account,” Stull said. “It will be a minimum savings to the township of $5,000 for the year.”
Supervisors also directed the solicitor to draw up a snow plowing ordinance for residents who plow snow out of their driveways onto township roads, causing hazardous driving conditions.
“We have a few in the area that are problems,” Stull said.
“They plow across the road and then it freezes and makes speed bumps,” Supervisor Daniel Pribisco said. “It can be really hard on the equipment.”
“This will give us a little more leverage in case we have problems,” Supervisor Henry Hoffer said.
“We don’t want to go out and fine people, we just want an ordinance that states that they can’t plow the snow out onto roads,” Stull said. “Most municipalities have one or are updating ordinances and PennDOT has one.”
Supervisors agreed to purchase a Journal of Emergency management set of books for $278.
“We’ll see if maybe the borough will throw in for this,” Stull said of the purchase.
