John Dzuba is a free spirit, especially when he's on his motorcycle.
The 48-year-old Donora resident began riding a Yamaha motorcycle at the age of 16.
He now rides a bike made by Indian - a model he said is rare and comes from a company older than the popular Harley Davidson brand.
Dzuba says there's a certain feeling of power and independence when he's on his hog.
"It's something that you're doing on your own," he said. "It's addictive."
Dzuba has worked as a control operator with Allegheny Power for 25 years.
He enjoys boating on the Monongahela River in the summer.
But firing up his bike is the ultimate getaway.
"It's a big stress reliever. It's a big everything. You get on a bike and you just ride," he said.
Dzuba said he loves feeling the open air while riding.
To him, the scenery in the Mid-Mon Valley and surrounding areas is the perfect backdrop for a summer road cruise.
"I like riding in the mountains the most," Dzuba said.
Dzuba usually rides with a group of 15 friends on the weekends and when he's not working.
But the biker said he will often hit the road alone and end up joining other riders he sees at stops.
"You just ride. That's the way it goes," he said of teaming up with other riders.
The camaraderie linked to riding has enhanced Dzuba's life with many friendships and experiences.
"It's a brotherhood. It's freedom," he said.
"There's nothing like being free."
