People who believe the government should be the ultimate benefactor should remember the fable of the horse and the stag.

As the story goes, a horse was being aggravated by a stag that had invaded his field. The horse asked a passing man if he would help in getting rid of the stag.

The man said he would help if the horse would allow the man to ride on his back and carry a spear. The horse agreed and together, they drove the stag from the field.

But now, the horse found he had a new master.
