Don’t forget Highmark patients

Have you forgotten about the thousands who prefer Highmark as their health insurer and will be denied access to UPMC facilities and doctors, beginning in 2015, unlike access through any other health insurer? UPMC has taken this vindictive and unprecedented action because Highmark entered the field of hospital care.

UPMC obviously does not care about the ability of seekers of health care to have the best opportunities for care. Its actions are punitive and contrary to the interests of the community.

It would seem UPMC is more interested in monopolistic control of health facilities and services in Western Pennsylvania. Yet no one seems to care! Silence seems to support this seemingly evil position.

In the Legislature sits proposed legislation that would cause UPMC to allow access to its facilities and doctors to all bona fide insurers, including Highmark, disabling the prejudicial and discriminating position UPMC seems to so belligerently hold to.

It is imperative that this legislation be allowed to come to the floor for a vote, rather than be stifled by a few, and at what cost or benefit to those silent opponents?
