Dr. Dre gives up best lot in L.A. for $32M
LOS ANGELES — Dr. Dre has given up what has been called the best view lot in Los Angeles to private equity firm founder Alex Soltani for $32 million.
The Hollywood Hills West home sold in an off-market deal after a brief appearance on the Multiple Listing Service last year, when it was priced at $35 million.
The contemporary estate has 9,696 square feet of living space, including a library/media room, a den, a wine cellar, six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The three-quarter-acre lot contains a guesthouse and a swimming pool.
But it was the 300-degree knoll-top views of the city, mountains and ocean that sold the self-made Soltani, who plans to tear down the existing house and transform the property into a $100 million trophy home.
Soltani, 36, is chairman and chief executive of Skyview Capital, a private equity firm in Los Angeles that focuses on technology and telecommunication buyouts.
Last year, Dr. Dre spent $40 million on the four-acre Brentwood estate of supermodel and actress Gisele Bundchen and her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, at about the same time that Apple Inc. acquired his Beats company for $3 billion. He owns a home along Malibu's Carbon Beach and equestrian property in Hidden Hills.
Dre, 49, is the founder and chief executive of Aftermath Entertainment.
The Grammy-winning rapper and record producer bought the property in 2011 for $15.4 million, public records show.
‘Supernatural' star sells
Jensen Ackles of “Supernatural” fame has sold his gated home in Malibu for $6.5 million.
The newly remodeled Mediterranean-style house contains a formal entry, living room, dining and family rooms, a den, five bedrooms, six bathrooms and nearly 6,000 square feet of living space.
Windows in the living room look out onto the garden. A multipurpose room is off the master suite. An attached guest suite sits above the garage. The more than one-acre site has a swimming pool with a spa, an outdoor kitchen/barbecue and three lawn areas. Views take in the surrounding foliage and the ocean.
Ackles, 36, has starred as a demon hunter since the series started a decade ago. Before that, he was in such series as “Smallville” (2004-05), “Dawson's Creek” (2002-03) and “Dark Angel” (2001-02).
The property previously sold two years ago for $4.8 million, public records show.
Where Prince once reigned
The only Los Angeles-area home that singer-songwriter Prince is known to have ever owned recently changed hands in Beverly Hills for $5.5 million.
The perpetual renter's onetime palace is a gated Italian-style compound. The main villa is set at the end of a long driveway on about three-quarters of an acre.
Inside the two-story rotunda entry is a sweeping staircase.
Unusual ceiling treatments and cutouts add drama in the master bedroom and family room.
Formal living and dining rooms, a two-story wine cellar, a wood-paneled library/office and a family room with a wet bar are within the 7,104 square feet of living space. Including the guesthouse, there are a total of five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Prince, 56, sold the home in 1997 for $2.2 million. The music megastar is among the bestselling artists of all time with such hit albums as “Purple Rain.” He won an Oscar for the “Purple Rain” score and is a seven-time Grammy Award winner.
