Driller agrees to penalty in settlement with EPA

One of Pennsylvania’s gas drillers has agreed to pay a $62,457 federal penalty to settle allegations of failing to meet hazardous chemical reporting requirements, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday.

The problems occurred at 52 wells and compressor stations in central and northern Pennsylvania operated by the U.S. subsidiary of Talisman Energy Inc. The company, which has an office in Cranberry, discovered the problems, notified the EPA and fixed them swiftly, the agency said in a news release.

Companies that store hazardous chemicals must list them and send safety data to state and local emergency response agencies. Talisman did not admit or deny any rules violations, the EPA said.
