A Pittsburgh driver was charged Wednesday night in connection with the death of an Allegheny County man who was killed Sept. 27 in a five-vehicle crash on the turnpike in Penn Township.
Isaac McCant III, 34, of 6429 Winslow St., was arraigned in Westmoreland County Night Court on charges of involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, five counts of causing an accident involving death or injuries, seven counts of reckless endangerment, and one count each of providing false identification, possession of marijuana, driving without a license, reckless driving and making an illegal U-turn.
McCant was lodged in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $250,00 bond.
State police at Gibsonia allege McCant was responsible for the accident that claimed the life of Thomas Kelly, 73, of Forest Hills. Police allege McCant's eastbound 1991 Oldsmobile was attempting to enter an opening in the medial area, resulting in a five-vehicle collision that spilled over into the westbound lanes, about six miles west of the Irwin interchange.
Gibsonia officers, aided by troopers from state police at Greensburg, executed a search warrant and an arrest warrant at McCant's home yesterday morning. Police said a female residing at the Winslow Street home will be charged with hindering prosecution after she allegedly gave police false information regarding McCant's identity.
