The driver of a pickup truck was killed Wednesday when he plowed into a house in Sacramento, starting a fire that heavily damaged the dwelling.

Fire Captain Niko King said it appeared the pickup lost control and slammed through a wall of the unoccupied home and wound up in the garage where it caught fire.

The unidentified driver was found still strapped into the truck, leading investigators to believe he died of a combination of injuries suffered in the crash and the subsequent fire.

More than 40 firefighters from Sacramento and Elk Grove to control the two-alarm blaze that caused an estimated $200,000 damage to the house.

King said Sacramento police and fire investigators set up a crime scene at the home on the south side and expected to have traffic in the area detoured for several hours.
