Famous pianos may be played
Three famous Steinway grand pianos are in town this week, but not just for display.
Pianos belonging to Vladimir Horowitz and Van Cliburn, as well as an “art case” instrument created in tribute to George Gershwin on the 100th anniversary of his birth, are at the University Club of Pittsburgh in Oakland. There, today through Saturday, the public is to look at and play the instruments.
The occasion combines celebration of the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s 60th anniversary and the “Legendary Instruments of the Immortals Tour” of Steinway and Sons, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary.
Wednesday afternoon, Patricia Prattis Jennings, principal keyboard artist of the Pittsburgh Symphony and a past winner of a Pittsburgh Concert Society competition, performed on each of the pianos. Today at 1 p.m., Camille Budarz will give a recital at the University Club.
For information about today’s recital or to arrange to play on the touring instruments, call Trombino Piano Gallery at (412) 765-0600.
