U.S. federal agents, cracking down on money-laundering, reportedly have found two Mexican cattle firms are fronts for drug-trafficking cartels. The announcement by the U.S. Treasury Department would allow federal agents to seize cattle sold by the companies to Texas ranchers, the Houston Chronicle reported Monday in a copyright story. "Cattle already purchased and owned before the companies were identified as tied to the drug cartels are not going to suddenly be blocked," the newspaper said, quoting a U.S. official. Treasury will inform U.S. cattle associations of the action taken against the Mexican companies. The companies named in the Treasury's statement are believed based in Tijuana and in Chihuahua State. Identifying the companies "deals another blow to the notorious Mexican drug cartels by targeting their financial webs," said Robert Werner, director of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
