Wilkinsburg borough Manager Gary DuFour told the borough's personnel committee Wednesday night he is leaving to take a similar job in Weirton, W.Va.

"He told us he's leaving," said councilwoman Patricia Baker.

Baker said the personnel committee is working with DuFour to arrive at a departure date. Although DuFour was at last night's meeting, he declined comment.

DuFour, 51, has held the Wilkinsburg post since April 21.

Weirton's city council voted to hire DuFour as city manager Monday night by a 4-3 vote.

DuFour makes $65,000 per year in the Wilkinsburg position and the previous manager in Weirton, Joe Cicchirillo made $58,000, according to Weirton city council member Harold Miller.

Before coming to Wilkinsburg, DuFour had been the city manager in Steubenville, Ohio, which is right across the Ohio River from Weirton.

Before DuFour was hired, Wilkinsburg had been managed for the previous year on an interim basis by Dormont Consultant Deborah Grass.

Grass was paid $55 an hour on a maximum 25-hours-per-week in that position.

Jim Weaver, the previous full-time manager in the borough, left that position in October 2001.
