Duquesne associate professor Troup to be president at Geneva College

An associate professor at Duquesne University will become the 20th president of Geneva College, the Beaver County school announced Monday.

Calvin Troup, who heads Duquesne's doctoral program in rhetoric, is expected to take the office of president at Geneva after commencement this spring.

Geneva conducted a seven-month presidential search that ended with the Board of Trustees selecting Troup at the end of last week, according to the Beaver Falls school, which is affiliated with the Reformed Presbyterian Church.

“I'm looking forward to serving this educational community, which I know and love so well, and helping it to thrive, grow and be even more productive for the Lord in the future,” Troup said in a statement.

Troup graduated from Geneva College with a bachelor's degree in 1983 and received his master's degree in 1991 and a Ph.D. in 1994 from Penn State. He has been a member of Geneva's board of directors and board of corporators.

He served at Duquesne for 20 years and taught at Penn State in University Park and Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

“We had a strong pool of candidates from which to choose. Dr. Calvin Troup rose to the top as an outstanding academic and a leader with a cooperative spirit and the tenacity to achieve enduring success,” said presidential search committee Chair Bonnie Weir in a statement.

Bill Edgar will continue to serve as interim president until Troup takes office. Edgar, the previous chair of Geneva's board of trustees, has served in the position since former President Ken Smith left for another post in July.
