Duquesne nixes offer to JUCO star
Duquesne University coach Ron Everhart said Thursday that the school has withdrawn its scholarship offer to a top junior college basketball player from Michigan who reportedly gave the Dukes a verbal commitment for the 2011-12 season.
Everhart said he is no longer recruiting Doug Anderson, a 6-foot-6, 218-pound All-America candidate from Mott Community College in Flint because Mott coach Steve Schmidt has expressed disappointment in the process.
Schmidt had no comment yesterday but told the Flint Journal on Wednesday that Anderson is “in no shape or form” committed to Duquesne.
Anderson, who led Mott in scoring a year ago, when the school ranked No. 3 in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association, also has received scholarship offers from Detroit and Oakland (Mich.), according to recruiting website rivals.com .
“All I can say is we are no longer interested in recruiting Doug Anderson,” Everhart said. College coaches are prohibited from discussing specific information about prospective recruits.
