East Liberty bus loop closure goes smoothly
Signs warning about the closure of the Penn Mall bus loop in East Liberty apparently helped a majority of riders adjust to the change yesterday.
The Port Authority of Allegheny County permanently closed the loop on Sunday. All buses that would normally use the loop will remain on Penn Avenue, but signs have been posted to alert riders to of new stop locations.
By all accounts, it seemed riders adjusted reasonably well.
“We’ve not been made aware of any confusion or trouble there,” department spokeswoman Heather Pharo said. “We blanketed the area pretty thoroughly with signs.”
Riders seeking to take outbound buses 71C, 74, 77, 81B, 88 and 89A can may board at Penn Avenue, past Shady Avenue at the Giant Eagle.
Inbound riders who take the 71C, 77, 81B, 86 and 88 service should board on Penn Avenue opposite Shady Avenue or on Penn Avenue at Sheridan Avenue.
Several other changes will take effect Tuesday. For a complete list, go to: www.portauthority.org/paac/portals/1/tdp/RoutesBrochureSept2010.pdf
