Jennifer Li Residence: Monroeville Age: 17 School: Li is a junior at Gateway High School. Family: Mother, Lixia Pu; father, Jiming Li; a brother, George, 10 Noteworthy: Li placed fifth in Business Calculations at the Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America state competition. She also received a first place in the regional science fair for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science and will go to the state competition in May. Li said she joined the business program after hearing other students talk about its leadership and business skills training. In addition to a general interest in math, she was interested in the business competition because of its real-life applications after graduation. Activities/Hobbies: Li plays the piano, volunteers at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville and is a member of her school’s Interact Club, a community service group. Her favorite subjects are biology and chemistry, and she is considering a career as a family practice physician. Quote: “We’re not taught how to handle financial stuff, so I felt it would be really useful to learn this stuff beforehand.”
