Nia Reid Bey Residence: Penn Hills Age: 11 Family: Parents, Debbie and Niea Bey School: Nia will be a sixth-grader at St. Bartholomew School in Penn Hills. Noteworthy: Nia recently won the under 16-years-old division of the Penn Hills Idol Contest at the annual Unity in Community Days. It was her first competition, and she won a $100 prize. She sang “My Heart Will Go On.” Activities: Nia is a member of the Pittsburgh Cheer Elite competitive cheerleading squad, a St. Bart’s cheerleader and a student of tap, ballet, hip-hop dance, jazz dance and gymnastics. She also enjoys speaking Spanish, art, singing, playing card games and baking cookies with her grandmother. Quote: “I thought the contest was a good way to show off my voice because someday I want to be a singer or a lawyer. I’m thankful to the Penn Hills Planning Commission for making it possible. I saved one fourth of the money I won and spent the rest on a CD player and Build-A-Bear accessories.”
