Meghan Boyle Age: 18 Residence: Wilkinsburg Family: Parents Jack and Paula Mackey Boyle Education: Senior at Oakland Catholic High School Noteworthy: Boyle was a member of the Miss Smiling Irish Eyes court in the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day parade yesterday. Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day parade dates to 1869 and is one of the largest in the country in terms of participation and attendance. Other activities: Boyle plays basketball and participates in cross-country track and field and rowing. She is a second-degree black belt in Sankosdi-style karate. She is a recipient of the National Harris Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding community service and leadership, and the Johns Hopkins Commended Scholar/Talented Youth Award. In the fall, Boyle will attend the University of Notre Dame on an academic and athletic rowing scholarship. She plans to pursue a degree in engineering and hopes to one day compete in the Olympics. Quote: “It was a great honor. I remember being at the parade when I was little and telling my parents, ‘I want to be in Miss Smiling Irish Eyes when I get older.’ I (was) very excited.”
