Inside the Classroom: Students hatch chicks and study embryology

Life skills and learning support students at Mount Pleasant Area High School are learning about embryology through a hands-on project, incubating chicken eggs.

The project was supported by a partnership with 4-H Westmoreland and the Penn State Extension agricultural department.

Students received about 100 eggs in early February. They’re spread out across four incubators throughout the school. Every day, students check the room and incubator temperature to make sure conditions are ideal for keeping the eggs.

After the eggs hatch later this month, some of the students will be able to take the baby chicks home and continue raising them.
