So what really is Ed Rendell's political future⢠Some speculate he'd be an attractive running mate for Barack Obama. Others say he could be considering a run for the U.S. Senate against Arlen Specter in 2010. But given Mr. Rendell's overall record -- dubious associations and debt, debt, debt -- it's a bit of a marvel that anyone thinks he actually has a political future. ... Can Sen. Obama recapture the traditionally Republican Mountain West⢠He thinks so and he says he's going after those states in November. And he's doing so because three of these states -- Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico -- were key to George Bush's 2004 win over John Kerry. And writing in The Politico, Carrie Budoff Brown says all the stars could be aligning this election cycle for Democrats. That said, John McCain, based in next-door Arizona, considers this his home region and plans to help align those stars. ... Obama's past associations keep raising eyebrows. So much so that National Review Online opines that "the Marxist Left hopes it has finally found a salesman to seal the deal for radicalism's rise." ... That said, 1960's radical Tom Hayden isn't yet sold. In a nutshell, Mr. Hayden says Obama isn't deferential enough to Venezuelan socialist Hugo Chavez. What a hoot.
