Electricity was restored again at Duquesne University on Monday after officials switched from generator power to regular service following a power outage that canceled classes and displaced some students for days.
The power was restored to St. Ann, St. Martin and Assumption dormitory halls at 3:30 p.m., said university spokeswoman Bridget Fare. The university began the switch from generator power at 10 a.m. Monday but students were still able to come and go from those dorms. Officials also extended dining hall hours Monday.
Students were able to return to the three dorms on Sunday afternoon as crews worked to replace a faulty cable underneath Academic Walk that appeared to be the source of the outage which began Thursday morning.
Classes were canceled Friday, and a little more than half of the 1,300 affected students found someplace to stay at home or off-campus, Fare said.
The rest stayed on-campus in other dorms rooms or lounges; only a few students and staff took advantage of 80 cots that were set up at the Power Center Ballroom.
