Elephant seal wanders into traffic
An elephant seal that waddled from the ocean and onto a street in Blaaubergstrand, South Africa, caused a stir among residents and motorists.
"The seal was spotted by one of the residents who reported it to the police," police spokesperson Jakkie van Litsenborgh told the the Cape Times.
"Members of our Crime Combat Unit were dispatched to the scene and the seal had made his way along the pavement and into Popham Street."
Litsenborgh said since the seal wandered into the street in the early morning, traffic was not a problem and the seal was not in danger.
"People driving to work actually stopped to have a look at the seal and others made sure they drove slowly and didn't injure the animal," she said. "A few passers-by also assisted the policemen with the seal and they were able to guide it back to the ocean without harming it."
