Elvis Presley tunes to be re-released

U.S. record company executives are poised to start the new year by re-releasing old Elvis Presley singles. Sony BMG is set to release 18 of Presley's hit songs for 17 consecutive weeks from Jan. 3 to April 25, starting with "All Shook Up" and ending with "A Little Less Conversation," reported the Times of London Tuesday. More than 27 years after he died, Presley could make history by claiming the 1,000th British chart No. 1 rank -- currently Britain's Band Aid 20 is the 997th No. 1 hit with "Do They Know It's Christmas?" "Sales of singles around this time of year tend to be at their lowest," said Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV, a British Web site that sells music, books, DVDs and games. "So if Elvis fans are out in force to buy his reissued No. 1s, there's every chance this could happen." Also being re-released are: "Jailhouse Rock," "One Night/I Got Stung," "A Fool Such As I/I Need Your Love Tonight," "It's Now Or Never," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" "Wooden Heart," and "Surrender." © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
