It is time to end most federal and state entitlement programs for the poor. They don’t seem to be working.
The poor get food stamps. Their children get free lunches and breakfasts, WIC, blessings in a backpack and food bank assistance. But hunger supposedly is increasing.
Welfare families get a check. At Christmas, there are toy drives because their parents can’t budget well enough to afford to buy Christmas presents. That is not the taxpayer’s fault.
Giant Eagle wants customers to donate for school supplies for poor children. Either the parents or the school district should provide these supplies.
Somebody is acting irresponsibly. It’s either mismanagement or fraud, but the current system does not work. Throwing more money at the problem will not help. The taxpayers and the poor deserve better.
