Applications for this year's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are now available at the Fayette County Assistance Office. This federal program assists low-income individuals who cannot pay their heating bills. The program opens for both the cash and crisis components on Nov. 12, with the components closing March 27, 2003. Besides household income, grants are based on type of fuel used and county of residence.
If you have filed a regular application and there are no changes in your circumstances and all necessary verification has been submitted, you need only to phone the reception desk to request a crisis application.
To apply in person, stop by the Fayette County Assistance Office, 41 W. Church St., Uniontown. Help for families with a heating emergency is available 24 hours a day by call 724-439-7125 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call the Emergency Management Agency at 724-430-9114.
