Evans City crash sends pickup truck into a tree
A Butler woman was in a hospital today after driving her truck off a road and into the top of a tree in a valley below.
Erin Bowser, 33, received minor injuries in this morning’s crash on Route 68 near Buhl Hill in Forward, Butler County, state police said.
Bowser lost control of her Dodge Ram when she tried to pass Tracy Hartman, 41 of Butler while both headed west on Route 68 about 8:40 a.m., police said. Bowser hit the rear of Hartman’s Cadillac then struck a guardrail and straddled it for 30 to 40 feet, police said. The truck then turned on its driver’s side, sheared a utility pole with its roof, rolled and stopped when it became suspended in a tree, police said.
Crews freed Bowser after climbing into the tree and took her to Butler Memorial Hospital, police said. Hartman was not injured. Both were wearing seatbelts, police said. Crews used a crane to pull the truck from the tree.
Police said speed was a major factor in the crash and cited Bowser.
