Everson Secretary/Treasurer Kathy Zaffina reported yesterday that the borough recently received favorable information concerning its requests to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for reimbursement for snow-removal costs.
"We got our approval on the payment for snow removal," Zaffina told council. "We will be receiving a total of $3,166.18. We should see that by the end of the month."
Borough code enforcement officer Frank Cross said he issued five letters to residents not in compliance with local codes -- three for grass and two were for structure issues.
More vandalism has occurred at Centennial Park, where two additional wooden swings have been broken.
"We're going to take them down and replace them," Councilman Marty Adabato said. "There are three that need to be replaced."
Adabato reported that recent rains have caused drainage pipes along Graft Street to become clogged.
Council Vice President Eric Christner urged all council members to attend an upcoming meeting concerning the sewage plant expansion.
"I think that it will be very interesting to see how this meeting goes," borough Solicitor Mark Rowan said. "My main concern is false promises. An agreement to settle something later is not an agreement."
Council discussed the possibility of adding a second crossing guard and directed Zaffina to draft a letter to be sent to Southmoreland School Board. If approved, the district would pay half of the fees for the second guard.
Final plans for the borough's Community Picnic/Night Out were announced.
"This is being held in conjunction with National Night Out," Christner said. "It's open to all borough residents and Upper Tyrone."
The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the firemen's fairgrounds.
"Everyone is to bring a covered dish, and we will supply the hot dogs, pop and water," Shannon said.
