Stancu Ogica, once jailed in Romania for two years for claiming he was robbed of lottery winnings, has now won $33,000 for real from the Romanian lottery.

Ogica was jailed in 2001 for attempted fraud and making false statements by claiming his $1 million lottery ticket was stolen, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Police reportedly became skeptical of his claims because of his past record of insurance fraud and other financial difficulties.

Nonetheless, Ogica continued to play the lottery -- finally becoming a real winner.
