Chances are, those who see “Love the Coopers,” which opens Friday, likely won't be able to figure out that the home — at least the exterior — shared by Sam and Charlotte is in Sewickley. The movie follows a family's attempts to return home for the holidays.
But a host of Pittsburgh landmarks such as the Pittsburgh International Airport, Phipps Conservatory, Boyce Park and the Port Authority Gateway Station all will be distinguishable. Portions of the film also were shot in Millvale and Ligonier.
A home near Backbone Road and Grove Street served as the exterior shot for the Cooper family, which stars John Goodman as Sam Cooper and Diane Keaton as Charlotte Cooper.
Exterior shots were filmed in February in Sewickley.
Among the film's other lead roles include Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, Jake Lacy and Amanda Seyfried.
In recent years, other movies shot in Pittsburgh have included some scenes from around the Sewickley Valley, including “Foxcatcher” starring Channing Tatum, with scenes filmed in Sewickley Heights; and Tom Cruise's “Jack Reacher,” which used the former Sewickley Country Inn.
