Islamic extremists in Britain praised terrorists responsible for the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the tragedy’s third anniversary Saturday. Anjem Choudary, of radical group Al-Muhajiroun, described September 11 architect Osama bin Laden as a “Muslim brother” and said the al Qaida mastermind could be elected leader in any Muslim country, the Daily Express reported Saturday. Choudary held a news conference in London to declare that there had been positive results of 9/11. Choudary said 9/11 was a “towering day” in history and paid tribute to the “magnificent” 19 hijackers. However, he said Muslims who lived in Britain did not have the right to carry out operations in the country under the covenant of security. Choudary also spoke of the recent Beslan school siege in Russia. He denied that the terrorists behind the siege had targeted children and claimed that they had made reasonable demands which would have resulted all hostages being released. © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
